June 2010 - LEBUHRAYA KORIDOR GUTHRIE (GCE) NASIHAT PENUNGGANG MOTOSIKAL SUPAYA TIDAK GUNA LALUAN UTAMA LEBUHRAYA DAN TIDAK MEMASUKI LORONG TOL

HIGH-SPEED LINK TO FEDERAL HIGHWAY AND SHAH ALAM HIGHWAY

Projek Lintasan Shah Alam Sdn Bhd today signed a 40-year concession with the Government of Malaysia to construct and operate a 14.7 km (including interchanges) Lebuhraya Kemuning–Shah Alam (LKSA).  The project will take 36 months to complete.

Speaking after witnessing the signing ceremony, Dato’ Seri S. Samy Vellu, the Minister of Works said that “Shah Alam and Kemuning had both grown beyond expectations and that it is time to act to relieve the mounting congestion on the existing roads in the vicinity and to pave the way for future developments.”

Shah Alam is undergoing new developments in the Ladang Haron, Ladang Emerald and Seksyen 23 areas that will contribute to an additional population growth of 100,000.

Another 11 new developments will be implemented along the Shah Alam Highway near Shah Alam – Kota Kemuning, Bukit Rimau, Bandar Puteri and Bandar Putera - this is also expected to generate population growth of another 300,000.

Based on the current traffic volumes and anticipating further increases in traffic demand, the new privatised highway, LKSA, will provide three-lane, dual carriageway connecting to Shah Alam Highway and Federal Highway.

Tan Sri Dato’ Hamad Kama Piah Che Othman, chairman of Projek Lintasan Shah Alam Sdn Bhd said that apart from providing additional capacity needed to cater for additional traffic generated from the new developments, the highway would cause a shift in traffic and provide relief for existing congested roads such as Jalan Bukit Kemuning, Persiaran Budiman and Persiaran Tengku Ampuan.  He added:

“We believe that the Government has entrusted us with this concession agreement purely because of the successful manner in which we constructed the 7.9 km Ampang-KL Elevated Highway in year 2000 and the efficient manner in which it is currently being managed.”

The highway will start at the Shah Alam Kota Kemuning Interchange and traverse northeast over Jalan Bukit Kemuning, Jalan Mantap, Sg. Klang, Bulatan Jubli Perak, KTM Railway track at Jalan Parang and Bulatan Selangor towards the existing Federal Highway Route 2 clover leaf Interchange.

LKSA will provide six interchanges and two toll plazas with an open toll system.  It also has traffic surveillance and control system for safety and conveniences to the road users.
